EVM Analytics™ - You Will Never Learn More from EVM Data!

Do you just compute EVM cost variance, schedule variance, SPI and CPI, and estimates and complete (EACs)?

There is so much more value in earned value data!

EVM Analytics™ is a MS Excel workbook that performs:

  • Identification of “strange” data entries

  • Earned Schedule analysis

  • Statistical prediction of final best/worse CPI and SPI (t)

  • Statistical prediction of best/worse final cost and schedule outcomes

  • Knowing when rebaselining might be a good idea

  • Knowing when recovery is impossible

  • Traditional EVM data analysis

You just import, or enter, your program's EVM data (PV, EV, AC) and their dates. EVM Analytics will give you more insight into your program than traditional EVM data analysis. (It also does traditional analysis.)

EVM Analytics can be used at the program, project, or any lower level where EVM data is summarized or available. Thus each level of your OBS and WBS can be analyzed as well as individual control accounts.

Enter PV and dates only once. Each month (period) enter, or copy/paste, the EV and AC data. The entire perfomance measurement baseline (PMB) and performance to date is thus available for analysis. With this total program data and the performance to-date a a true statistical analysis can be performed.

EVM Analytics finds "strange" data that might be a data entry error or an effort to overstate EV or understate AC.

Earned Schedule analysis yields a meaningful SPI (t) that is valid to the program's end, unlike traditional EVM SPI($) that always becomes 1.0 regardless of the program's completion date.
This SPI(t) is used to provide forecasts of the program's completion date.

The concepts used in EVM Analytics are sourced from academic papers, presentations, and published articles from experts in EVM. These concepts do not have widespread implementation due to the "snapshot" nature of typical month-end EVM data reports. By having the entire PMB and monthly EVM data available MS Excel can do what it does best, analyze data.

Tabular summary data, charts, and all analysis values may be exported for your further analysis or made a part of your periodic reports and briefings. Charts are plotted over time and show:

  • Estimated completion date, best and worst case

  • Estimated completion cost, best and worst case

  • Rebaselining triggers

  • Performance Measurement Baseline plots (PV, EV, and AC)

  • Current and cumulative cost and schedule variances

  • Current period SPI($), SPI(t),  and CPI

  • Cumulative SPI($), SPI(t), and CPI

  • To-Complete Cost Performance Index (TCPI) using BAC or user entered target budget

  • To-Complete Schedule Performance Index (TSPI) using Planned Duration or user entered target completion date

  • Traditional EACs using CPI, SPI($), and SPI(t)

With these charts you can see trends in the estimated completion date and cost, and when rebaselining might be a good idea.

EVM Analytics Manual

A trial version is available. It will provide you with 120 days of free use of EVM Analytics. Why 120 days? Some of the analysis tools need three recent months of data. You can use the trial version on your real projects and see the results. You can also use data from a complete program to see how EVM Analytics would have helped forecast the outcome. To get the trial version just send us an email.
